The Western Trial Advocacy Institute is held each summer at the University of Wyoming College of Law in Laramie, Wyoming.  Although the program takes most of the day, time is allowed to enjoy Laramie and its environs which are rich in scenery, wildlife, history, and outdoor recreation.  The cool, comfortable summer climate is perfect for sightseeing, fly-fishing for trout, hiking, backpacking, mountain biking, golf, and horseback riding.  One of the popular attractions is a rock formation which is great for short or long hikes, mountain biking, or just to view spectacular western scenery just a few miles to the east of Laramie with the Native American name of Vedauwoo.  To the west of Laramie, less then an hour away, is the cool, inviting, picturesque Snowy Range Mountains, named, not as many believe, because they carry snow all year long that can be seen from Laramie, but because of the abundance of white rock.  The high point of the Mountains to the west is the continental divide.  Over the range into the North Platte valley lies Saratoga, Wyoming and the famous North Platte River.  To the north along the North Platte River, lies the city of Casper the world famous miracle mile trout fishery, the cities of Cody and Jackson Hole along with the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National parks.  Just south of Laramie is Colorado with the cities of Fort Collins, Boulder, and Denver. Past participants have rafted on the scenic and wild Cache La Poudre river flowing into Fort Collins with A1 Wildwater Rafting.  Just outside Fort Collins is Estes Park, the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Many participants in the past have coupled their travel to Laramie and the WTAI activities with exploration of Colorado and Wyoming, either before or after the Institute session in June.

The Laramie Regional Airport is serviced by commercial airlines and if you fly into Laramie, arrangements will be made to pick you up at the airport.  There are shuttle busses from Denver to Laramie (Green Ride Colorado), or one can rent a car and drive.  The Institute at the law school and housing are within easy walking distance and transportation is provided to the western barbeque and the graduation banquet.

Participants often fly into Denver International Airport, DIA, and either rent a car in Denver or take the Green Ride Colorado shuttle from Denver to Laramie.  While you are in Laramie, you can catch a ride with other participants and there is a bus provided to the Western barbecue held at the Snowy Range Lodge in the Snowy Mountains to the west of town.  The city of Laramie is less than a three hour drive north of Denver, Colorado on I-25 to Fort Collins and then highway 287 to Laramie or, alternatively, continuing on I-25 to Cheyenne Wyoming and going over to Laramie on I-80.
